On Monday 8th May we were delighted to welcome hundreds of children and their grown ups to take part in our free, drop in programme of family volunteering, as part of The Big Help Out!
We did lots of different taster sessions suitable for children aged 2+ working with some of our fantastic local charities. Lots of fun was had seed planting and making bee hive frames with Bee Urban, apple and seed bird feeders with Roots and Shoots, a big WELCOME sign for Webber Street Day Centre, paper flower bouquets for MYSocial and wildflower seed bombs for Bankside Open Spaces Trust.
It was great to see so many families getting stuck into our accessible, child-friendly volunteering taster sessions which made such a positive impact on our partner charities and the communities that they serve.
A huge thanks to Mishcon de Reya LLP for supporting our programme for The Big Help Out.
Volunteering levels in the UK are currently at their lowest - and we also know that a huge portion of people stop volunteering after they have a child. The volunteering sector needs to become more flexible in accommodating people who experience different barriers to community participation, which is what we are trying to help tackle. Family Volunteering Club is about making it easier for people with caring responsibilities, and young children, to engage with community through volunteering and we were delighted to be one of thousands of events as part of The Big Help Out, reminding the public how fantastic it is to get involved with helping in the community!
